Series: Writers you should know w/ Elisabet Velasquez: Strolling Down Writers Block

No matter where you live, there’s one place all writers are familiar with. Writers Block. We’ve all been to The Block at some point in our experience with writing. Some of us have visited The Block briefly and eventually found our way back to the page. some of us are exhausted from circling The Block in search of inspiration. In this generative writing workshop we’ll explore Writers Block. Participants will generate new work using a variety of prompts to begin to get their pen strolling down Writers Block.
Elisabet Velasquez was born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Her poems have appeared in numerous publications including NBC, Huffington Post, Muzzle, Latina, Vibe Magazine and the music streaming site Tidal. She is a 2009 National Nuyorican Slam Team Member, a 2017 Poets House Fellow and the winner of Button Poetry’s 2017 Poetry Video of the year award. She has performed at various universities and stages in the nation and has taught workshops at institutions such as Harvard University, Abroms Arts center, Montefiore Hospital and is currently a Teaching Artist with Generation Verb. She is also a Dream Director with The Future Project where she works towards helping young people turn their passions into realizations. She is the author of the chapbook PTSD and is currently working on her first full length manuscript. She is currently using her Instagram platform as a means to provide free and accessible information about writing. She lives with her two children and books in her hometown of Brooklyn.
